The Workload report offers a handy way to control activity time, including start and end dates, duration, scheduled hours, etc. Operations explained below, save for setting a timeframe for an activity, are available for both manual and automatic mode activities.
The key activity time edit operations you can perform on the Workload screen are as follows:
- Setting a timeframe for an activity.
- Moving activities on the timeline by drag-n-drop.
- Changing activity duration by moving its end date.
- Scheduling hours left either in automatic or manual mode.
- Resetting scheduled hours to zero to restart manual scheduling or to apply automatically calculated scheduling (see Workload - manual vs. automatic mode).
Setting timeframe for activity & Changing duration
You can set a timeframe for an activity which does not have one directly on the Workload screen.
To create a timeframe:
- Filter out the activity. How to use the filters, please see the Workload tab - overview.
- Place the mouse pointer on the activity row. You will see a prompt "Press shift + click to set duration".
- Holding down Shift click on the cell where you would like the activity to start. Please note that the balance hours (4 hours) will be converted automatically to scheduled hours.
- Use the RIGHT handle () to change the activity's duration by dragging to the right. Please note that the scheduled hours will be distributed evenly over the whole duration.
Warning
For manual mode activities, scheduled hours entered manually for a date will not change as the result of a changed duration. For manual vs. automatic mode, see Workload - manual vs. automatic mode.
Moving activities on timeline
You can drag an activity along the timeline thus changing its start date with the end date adjusted accordingly and its duration remaining the same.
To move an activity on the timeline:
- Filter out the activity. How to use the filters, please see the Workload tab - overview.
- Place the mouse pointer on the LEFT handle of the activity (). The pointer will change shape to a four-side arrow.
- Holding the left mouse button pressed, drag the activity left or right. Please note that if you move the activity back in time past the current date, the scheduled hours are bound to change, as in the example below (compare with the picture immediately above).
