Overview
Custom fields cannot be created without linking them to a Birdview entity, be it project, task, time entry, etc.
There are currently ten entities that custom fields can be created for. See Custom field entities below. There are eleven field types to go with them. See Custom field types below.
Some field types, e.g. User, can have selection mode set for them: dropdown or multi-select.

Custom field entities
There are ten Birdview entities for which custom fields can be created:
- Project
- Activity (any type: task, issue or request)
- Task
- Issue
- Request
- Customer
- User
- Portfolio
- Expense
- Time entry
Project or activities
To assign a value to a custom field created for projects or activities (any type, tasks, issues, or requests):
- Open Activity center.
- Open the details of a project or activity you want modified.
- Under Custom fields, locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.
Warning
If the custom field is mandatory, you will not be able to save the page until after you have assigned a value to it. You will be prompted with a message "This is a required field". The same applies to the remaining cases below. Refer to Custom fields for details on mandatory fields.
Users
To assign a value to a custom field created for users.
- Click through Company settings > Users.
- Open the details of a project or activity you want modified.
- Under Custom fields, locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.
Customers
To assign a value to a custom field created for customers.
- Click through Company settings > Customers.
- Open the details of a project or activity you want modified.
- Under Custom fields, locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.
Portfolios
To assign a value to a custom field created for portfolios.
- Go to Projects & tasks > Portfolios.
- Open the details of a project or activity you want modified.
- Under Custom fields, locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.
Expenses
To assign a value to a custom field created for expenses.
- Go to a project's Financial section.
- Open the details of a project or activity you want modified.
- Under Expenses, locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.
Time entries
To assign a value to a custom field created for time entries.
- Go to Time logs history or Weekly timesheets.
- Open the details of a time entry you want to modify.
- Locate the custom field you want to give a value to.
- Assign a value using the appropriate method, depending on the type of custom field. E.g., use a date selector, for a date format custom field.
- The changes are saved automatically.

Time entry custom fields are available when you track your time from the activity details page, My assignments page and timer.

User field type
This field type has the following special features:
- Field values of this type include only Active users of the Birdview account. Guests and unnamed resources are not included for selection.
- Two selection modes - Dropdown (single-select) or multi-select.
- Can be created for all entities.
